How the Motability Scheme Works

The standard lease is three years and payments are simply deducted from your mobility allowance every four weeks and paid directly to Motability Operations Ltd. by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Every lease is all inclusive, which means all of the running costs like insurance, servicing and maintenance are included in the price you pay.

At the end of your lease you have the option to simply hand your car back, or if like most customers you choose to stay with us, you can just pick a new car and begin another lease.

The following are included in our worry-free package:

  • A brand new car every three years, or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) every five years
  • Insurance, servicing and maintenance
  • Full breakdown assistance
  • Annual vehicle tax
  • Replacement tyres (and batteries for scooters and wheelchairs)
  • Windscreen repair or replacement
  • 60,000 mileage allowance over three years for cars; 100,000 for WAVs
  • Many adaptations at no extra cost
  • Three named drivers for your car

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair. 

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the following disability benefits and you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. (Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Scheme.)

  • DLA: higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance
  • PIP: higher rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment
  • WPMS: War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement
  • AFIP: Armed Forces Independence Payment
